IMPORTANT NOTICE: On December 8th, 2005 Mr Pascal Girardet, President of Emeraude Lines SAS, met with employees and their delegates in order to inform them of the current economic and technical situation of the company.

Pascal Girardet confirmed that Sogestran (the parent company) has decided that the vessel Solidor V, which is currently undergoing its annual refit, will not be replaced for the time being. Therefore, Emeraude will not resume operating the Saint Malo to Jersey route before the end of February 2006.

He once again confirmed that the group alone, or with a new partner, aim to find a solution that will best fit the needs of this route and enable the continuity of Emeraude and its employees. Finally, he assured that everything is being organised in Jersey and Saint Malo to ensure that all Emeraude customers will be refunded on bookings during this period.

In the interim please reserve your Channel Islands ferry tickets with one of the alternative services offered by Condor Ferries or one the other Channel Island ferry operators using the price look-up and online reservation form above.

EMERAUDE FERRIES

Emeraude Ferries - From starting life in 1904 as "Bateaux de la Cote D' Emeraude" transporting passengers and cargo around the Emeraude coast, to today, now called Emeraude Ferries, carrying vehicles, passengers and freight on high-speed car-ferries between Jersey and St Malo.

Emeraude Ferries run an airline-style fare structure based on a system of selling by availability rather than price being based on the duration of the trip away. Passengers who book early will be able to secure return fares from as little £112 for a car and up to two passengers, or £40 for a foot passenger.

A Brief History 1904 - 2005

2005

The technical problems solved, Solidor V returns to the route - a choice much proclaimed by her many admirers in Jersey and France alike!

2005

Emeraude France replaces its sister ship the Emeraude GB. The latest vessel is a newer 74 metre Sea-Cat than its predecessor and offers improved boarding facilities, higher levels of comfort and disabled facilities for passengers.

2004

The Hoverspeed SeaCat 'Great Britain' is chartered to take over the Saint Malo to Jersey route after continuing technical problems with the Solidor V. This famous vessel (the Great Britain set the transatlantic crossing record for the fastest average speed in 1990 and flew the coveted 'Blue Riband' for eight years) has a greater capacity than previous Emeraude vessels and a more than comfortable passenger area.

2003

Emeraude Lines is bought by Sogestran and renamed Emeraude Jersey Ferries. A large French group, and market leaders in many different areas, the future for Emeraude is ensured...

2001

Another new era begins for Emeraude Lines with the arrival of Solidor V.

2000

Continuing its expansion, "Emeraude Lines" increases the frequence of direct sailings to Guernsey with "Solidors III and IV", as well as its links with Normandy including a sailing to Alderney.

1999

Emeraude Lines introduces a second car-ferry to the St. Malo to Jersey route "Solidor IV" as they continue to expand. Daily sailings between Jersey and Guernsey are now operated by the new car-ferry. "Normandie Express" is introduced on the Normandy and Inter-island routes.

1998

Solidor III provides a full year of service.

1997

Emeraude Lines is delighted by the new levels of service offered by "Solidor III" and accepts delivery. Our first website is launched. "Trident Eurotours" changes it's name to "Emeraude Travel",

1996

The "Solidor III" is launched on the 8th of June. This brand new stabilised high-speed car ferry takes over the St. Malo to Jersey and Guernsey routes. "Solidor III":- capacity of 450 passengers and 51 cars and cruises at a speed of 33 knots. Dielette to both Jersey and Guernsey is opened as a route.

1995

Due to continued technical problems the "Emeraude" is returned to the shipyard on the grounds of not reaching the required specification. The "Solidor II" is returned to the routes of St. Malo to Jersey and Guernsey. "Emeraude Lines" places an order for a new high speed car ferry from the "Kvaerner Fjellstrand" shipyard

1994

Emeraude Lines launches the new high-speed car ferry "Emeraude" that replaces Solidor II on the St. Malo to Jersey route. For the first time a car ferry service is offered from Guernsey to St. Malo direct. "Emeraude":- capacity of 400 passengers and 42 cars and capable of travelling at 32 knots.

1993

Emeraude Lines orders the first of its high-speed ferries. The Saint Quay Portrieux route closes due to a lack of demand. "Trident Eurotours" opens in St. Helier, Jersey opens, specialising in holidays in France from the Channel islands.

1992

Emeraude Lines purchases SMCJ to open the Carteret to Jersey route. Giving "Emeraude Lines" the largest network of services in local waters, connecting a total of nine ports.

1991

The route of Saint Quay Portrieux to the Channel Islands is opened. As is the route from Portbail to Jersey with the purchase of the operating company JPF.

1990

All of the companies' merge to create the joint stock company "EMERAUDE LINES".

1989
The "Solidor II" replaces the "Solidor I" on the St. Malo to Jersey route. "Solidor II" Ex Langeland with a capacity of 600 passengers and 90 cars / freight

1988

The company wide brand of "Emeraude Lines" is created.

1983

The fast catamaran fleet renamed to "TRIDENT". "Westamarin W95" high-speed catamaran is purchased. The tour operator and travel agents "BCE VOYAGES" a subsidiary company of BCE is created. They specialise in short break and tailor made holidays in the Channel Islands from France

1977

Emeraude Ferries LTD is created as a subsidiary company of BCE. The start of the daily service by traditional car ferry "Solidor I" from St. Malo to and from Jersey. "Solidor I" Ex Langeland (Kiel/Bagenkop) with a capacity of 500 passengers and 50 cars

1976

Emeraude launch the first fast catamaran "Westmarin W86" (made by Norvegian Shipyard) imported into French waters. Inter-island travel is now possible with the routes between Jersey, Sark and Guernsey.

1970

The routes from Saint Malo and Granville to Jersey in the Channel Islands are opened.

1696

The opening of the new road link between Saint Malo and Dinard makes the car ferry link obsolete. An alternative route must be found.

1904

The original guise of Emeraude Lines, "Bateaux de la Cote D'Emeraude" (BCE), is created. Starting by transporting passengers and cargo all around the 'Emerald Coast' of Brittany, North France - including the ports Saint Malo, Dinard, Cap Frehel, Dinan and excursions up the River Rance. The original car ferry route was between Saint Malo and Dinard.

You've decided to visit the Continent - what do you need to know?
All passengers travelling to France, including infants must be in possession of a valid passport or appropriate national ID card. Non EC passport holders must ensure that they have any Visa necessary for entry into France. Travel will be refused and neither refund, nor compensation will be paid where these conditions are not complied with. If in doubt please contact the Immigration and Nationality Department on +44 (0) 1534 730358. The carrier shall not be held responsible for any breach of customs and/or police formalities by a passenger, as per clause 11 of the General Conditions of Carriage.

Everyone has got the necesary ID - what's next?
Once you are sure that everybody can travel, we recommend that you make a reservation. This can be done by sending your request from this web site, by telephone to our reservations centre or by visiting our counter in Elizabeth Terminal. Reservations will be confirmed once payment has been made in full.

Reservation made - what happens on the day of departure?
Rendez-vous at Elizabeth Terminal 45 minutes before departure time for foot passengers, 60 minutes if you are travelling with vehicle (more information). Once you have your boarding cards and registered your baggage (if necessary), you can buy yourself a newspaper to read during the crossing or whilst you wait for the boarding announcement(amenities at the terminal).

What can I expect onboard Solidor 5?
Launched in 2001, Solidor 5 offers everything one could expect on a moderrn high speed vessel. With comfortable aircraft style seats, duty-free boutique and bar cafeteria serving a wide choice of drinks and snacks, sit back and enjoy the computer stablized ride. For the complete experience at a small extra charge let yourself be taken care of in the Premier Class section at the front of the vessel. Sip your complimentary glass of Champagne as you enjoy the view from the panoramic windows.

Once arrived in France...
Saint Malo - passport and customs control and you have arrived in France. Passengers with vehicles, take care to remember that you must drive on the right - the Naye roundabout is always a tricky experience!
