In the country that gave the world the Christmas Tree and the Advent Wreath, you'll discover an unspoilt Christmas experience brimming with enchantment, goodwill and, of course, great shopping. Welcome to Germanys Christmas Markets, where the old traditions live on amidst the medieval cathedrals, castles and fairytale palaces.
Stalls set up by local artisans are piled high with toys, crafts, souvenirs and many traditional Christmas gifts, as well as a host of mouth-watering delicacies. Follow your nose and you’ll find spiced wine, dampfnudeln (sweet, yeast dumplings), hot chestnuts, pfeffernüsse (ginger and cinnamon biscuits), honey cake, stollen, Nussbrot and grilled sausages.
An included full day excursion will take you along the meandering Moselle Valley, following the river and visiting a couple of lovely old towns such as Bernkastel, Cochem or Trier. Enjoy the intimate atmosphere of their Christmas Markets, set against a backdrop of half-timbered houses - some dating from the 17th century. Be sure to make time for a warming glass of glühwein or a steaming hot chocolate!
All departures are for 4 days, except from Edinburgh, when the duration is 5 days.
