YOUR HOLIDAY ITINERARY
DAY 1. Join the overnight flight to Colombo
DAY 2. Morning arrival and transfer to our hotel in Sigiriya for a two night stay. The remainder of day is yours at leisure.
DAY 3. After breakfast we will visit the awe-inspiring Sigiriya Rock Fortress. In the afternoon, we offer an optional safari in Minneriya Wildlife Park.
DAY 4. Today we offer an optional visit to Polonnaruwa, the island's medieval capital. In the afternoon, we will depart Sigiriya and travel to the Royal City of Kandy, the cultural centre of Sri Lanka, for a two night stay. En route we will visit the rock caves and temples of Dambulla and a spice garden in Matale.
DAY 5. This morning we include a sightseeing tour of Kandy. In the afternoon we offer an optional tour to the elephant santuary at Pinnawela. This evening we include a visit to the striking Temple of the Tooth where you will enjoy a traditional dance performance. Return to the hotel will be by traditional tuk tuk!
DAY 6. After breakfast we depart Kandy and travel by train to Nawalapitiya. We will then continue by road to the charming market town of Bandarawela for a two night stay. En route visits will be made to a tea estate and the hill station of Nuwara Eliya.
DAY 7. The morning we include a gentle trek around Bandarawela. The afternoon is spent at leisure.
DAY 8. Today we depart hill country and head to Rathnapura, the gem capital of Sri Lanka. After a visit to a local gem mine, where you will be able to see the stones being cut, we will continue to Kithulgala for a one night stay. This afternoon you will have the chance to join an optional afternoon excursion to Uda Walawe Wildlife Park.
DAY 9. You won’t want to miss our optional guided trek along the local bird trails, giving you the opportunity to spot some of Sri Lanka’s 435 recorded resident species. Later today we will travel on to the pretty west coast fishing village of Negombo for an overnight stay at a beachfront hotel.
DAY 10. After a final breakfast there will be time to relax before a late morning transfer to the airport and return flight to the UK.
